Blaise Gaston Furniture

About: Philosophy

Creating furniture inspired by the things I find beautiful - the trunk of an elephant, the wing of a bird, the legs of a woman - motivates me as much today as it did forty years ago when I began making furniture. I love the way a finely finished surface reflects the light and enlivens the hand. The first cut through a slab of curly maple still exhilarates me. These things show in the work I do. With my work you get my excitement.

I make unusual furniture: elegant, beautiful and superbly built. I work with you to discover what will enrich your life. First you tell me about what you need - function, size, location, and unusual requirements. Then we discuss what you like about my work - which pieces in particular are you drawn to? Next I go to work sketching, modeling, and making prototypes: you say yes to this one; no to that one; add this detail from that other one. Eventually we arrive at the design and I begin to build.

If this speaks to you and if you like what you see, perhaps you would like to commission a piece of furniture. Please call or email and we can begin the discussion.
